HOLISTIC HEALTH
Health is not
the absence of physical illness. Health is
not measured solely by the level at which
our physical body functions. Holistic health
includes our thoughts, occupation,
relationships, philosophy of life, spiritual
practices and more. Our holistic health is
also affected by our self-esteem, our
response to profound or traumatic
experiences, memories, childhood
experiences, behavior patterns, even
superstitious beliefs. Health requires a
conscious connection between the individual,
other people and the greater universe.
Health is the ideal
balance between all parts of our being and only by
addressing the unique physical, mental/emotional,
and spiritual aspects of each person can a greater
level of healing be achieved. But health is much
more than the sum of the individual parts. All these
aspects are interdependent and interconnected and
wellness depends on their integrity. If one of these
aspects is out of balance it will affect all the
other aspects. So holistic health is the whole human
being and all aspects of that human being and in the
words of the well-known author Caroline Myss “your
biography becomes your biology”.
Appreciating your
wholeness, what is truly unique about you, heightens
your awareness and your ability to take care and
support yourself appropriately. Do you realize that
no one exactly like you has ever lived before, and
no one exactly like you will ever exist again? To
quote author Mechthild Scheffer “ Each of us is on a
unique and unrepeatable journey through life, and
our state of health at any time serves as an
indicator of the point we have reached on this
journey”. Therefore supporting yourself must also be
tailored in a unique and creative way to fit your
uniqueness.
